Aids Ride (June 2011)

This is the beginning of the AIDS lifecycle ride starting in San Francisco and ending in LA, it was a ten day adventure, very awkward at times, fun and a once in a lifetime event. This is me with Alcatraz island in the background... THE ROCK
Cool Bread animals made of Sourdough, pretty cool

The best seafood in California, if your every in SF, you have to try the clam chowder in bread bowls, and the calamari was amazing

Golden Gate Bridge
Bay Bridge
Okay I'll jump on the band wagon, go Giants
This was the Opening ceremony of the ride, we were at the Cow Palace in SF and they had a rider stretching time, which was going on right here, then they had some speakers that talked about the significance of this event, over $14 million raised in this event for AIDS research.
This was thirty seconds before the ride began, it took 18 minutes for all the riders to cross this starting gate, there were over three thousand riders
I got a picture of the only "Utah Man" in the race, Go Utes
These tents were set up for us at each stop, this was the first stop of the Ride, Santa Cruz, we stayed at this beautiful camp site, our treatment tent was the one in the middle.
This was a dinning tent
Inside the treatment tent, this was just before the riders started to come in
The organization was amazing, these trucks carried all the riders gear and tents
They would load up and unload all the gear at every stop, all by volunteers, it was pretty amazing
First time I treated a man in a skirt, by the way he wasn't wearing any underwear, awkward moment
Our bus took a wrong turn on day two of the ride and we crossed a pack of riders, this picture is taken from the back of the bus, we were heading to King City
This is Salmon, a classmate and good friend of mine, he wanted to show off his handy taping skills
This was rock star day, and I found the Utah Man, so I took a picture with him, I also treated him
This was a picture of the craziness, it got so busy, tons of knee injuries
This is what happens when you leave your camera lying around
This was Paso Robles, I think, anyways, it was cool cause we didn't have to sleep in a ten, but the building got hot, and sleeping on concrete sucked
This ice cream was the best ice cream I had ever eaten, and the waffle cones are made right there fresh, we were standing in line to buy some and some patients saw us and bought us cones, that was cool.
This was the unloading process, we formed a giant fire line and unloaded and loaded the truck every day, it got old by the second day

Pajama day, there were themes for everyday, pretty Gay I know, but look where I was
This is how the riders would sleep, I think this is at Santa Maria

This was on the "Diva Bus" as the driver called it, he was interesting to say the least, the decorations were his idea, so that explains how he was and you can imagine what he looked like.
This was at the Ventura stop, we camped on the beach, it was the best stop and the last
This was walking to the candle light ceremony

All riders and volunteers were here holding candles, they had a moment of silence for all those who have been impacted by the disease, it was pretty cool, then everyone walked to the ocean and put out the flames in the ocean, there were lot of tears that night

This picture was taken the last morning, I treated this lady every morning and afternoon, her knees were held together for six hundred miles by kinesotape and spandex, but she made it
Finish line in LA

This was the closing ceremony, we all walked into this big arena, and all the volunteers got be front and center, and all the riders thanked us, it was pretty cool
Those are all the riders cheering for the volunteers or "Rodies" as they called us.

This is Jane Lynch, as seen on Glee, I treated her wife (they got married right when it was legalized here in California) she was a cool lady, and I got to met Jane after the ride, so that was cool.
The End
